Another beautiful weekend

We have had another busy week here in California. I worked extra hours, as seems to be the standard lately, but had some unexpected news. I will be getting a raise from now until my first anniversary (which is June 11) and then another one on my first anniversary. Also, their rate for "odd hours" has raised quite a bit, which is nice. I stayed late (until 8 pm) on Thursday, so it will be nice to know that I will be getting compensated appropriately. They are trying to talk me into coming in on Saturdays to do evals to keep up with demand, but so far, I am not thinking I will do that. My weekends are too precious =).
Saturday, we initially had planned to go to the beach in La Jolla, since it was going to be 85 degrees out there. However, if you heard about the shark attack, that was north of where we were going, and they did not want to have people in the water, so we decided to wait and go another time. Instead, Nick decided to get his birthday present early (his birthday is next Saturday), so we went to Best Buy and he picked out an iPod. I can't believe we are finally in this century. It has certainly been fun to play with. We got one of the larger memory ones, so we both can have things on it, and I guess we will have to fight over who gets to use it ;).
Then, after a grueling search for work shoes around Riverside (I wear tennis shoes), I decided that I needed to go over to Redlands to DSW and check out getting a deal. Before I went in there, I went into the Kohl's right next door and found exactly what I wanted. For some reason, our Kohl's here in Riverside always looks like it has been ransacked and it never has what I want! So, I was happy with that trip. It was a hot day, so I was happy to have my mocha frappuccino from Starbucks.
Today, we have done our normal errands and just got back from the pool. I think it is warmer today, but there is a small layer of clouds, so it doesn't feel as hot. I napped while we were over there and actually spent some time in the water. It was a nice afternoon.
This week is nothing exciting, but Nick will be out of town Tuesday and Wednesday for a work retreat. I bought myself a nice frozen pizza for Tuesday night, so I think it will be nice to eat junk ;). Next weekend, we will celebrate Nick's birthday (method yet undetermined). He wants to go up to the mountains and do a hike up by Big Bear Lake, which does sound nice. It shouldn't be too cold. Maybe next week I will have some pictures for you!!!
Have a good week!

Same old...

I feel like I am a broken record here! We really don't have anything new out here. We had a beautiful week of weather and then the weekend rolls around and it's freezing! Keep in mind-freezing to me is now anything lower than 75! No pool and tanning for me!
We have been cleaning like mad here, as we haven't given this place a deep clean since Christmas! I just have the kitchen to finish, which I will do after supper! Everything does look very nice though.
Nothing new on the house, but it sounds like another offer is going to be accepted. So, we will keep our fingers crossed, but it doesn't sound like a go. We will probably take a break from active hunting and maybe pick up at the end of the summer/fall, if that is still what we want.
Just wondering if I should plan some sort of get together for when I am back in MN for the long weekend. I know the Iowa people are far, but maybe we could meet in the middle and for everyone else, maybe we could do a BBQ at a park or something. That is, of course, if people are interested!!! Please let me know!
That's it for this week! Hope everyone is well!

Nothing much is new....

here in SoCal, aside from the awesome temperatures. We just got back from the pool and lying out in the sun. It was a lovely afternoon. I think I got a good start to this year's tan, and don't think I burned too much (I hope). We have had 3-4 days of 90 degree temps, which is warm for this time of year, but we have been enjoying it.
No word on the house yet, we're still waiting...
No other news this week! Hope everyone has their taxes in!

I AM SO BUMMED...

that Michael Johns was voted off American Idol! I really, really liked him even though his performances have been inconsistent. I personally thought he had the best voice on the show and, I think, could be a good star, especially on the blues/soul front. I actually had him as the #2 in my AI pool, kind of as a wild guess. I really feel that Seyesha should have gone this week. Oh well-nobody asked me.
By the way, the weather up in Minnesota looks awful. That sucks. We're to be in the 90s tomorrow and throughout the weekend. Welcome to summer!

An interesting week

We've had a pretty good week here in SoCal. Nick had Monday off, which allowed him to do laundry and some other "catch-up" tasks, which was nice. I, on the other hand, worked extra hours throughout the week, as the clinic needed some more eval spots. It wasn't too bad, and they will pay me the per diem rate, which is higher than my full-time rate. It wasn't too bad, but I sure was happy to see the weekend come.
Friday night we went out to dinner with friends Erin and Josh at Acapulco's, a local Mexican restaurant. We had a good time with them, as always, but was not a late night, as Erin had to work a 24 hour shift at the hospital the next morning. I am sure she was happy when that was over with!
Saturday, Nick and I took an adventure to the sales pitch arena. We attended a time share presentation (or pressurtation) in Ontario for about 2 hours. There was really no chance we were going to buy the product, so it was pretty easy for us to say no. They really are professionals, so you really have to be firm. After we spoke to the 3rd salesperson, she asked-you're never going to go on a vacation in the next 30 years? Nick just said-NO! It was pretty funny and it is incredible to see how many were suckered into it, even though you know they probably can't afford it. I am sure some of those were plants, but even so, I'm sure there were some suckers. Anyway, for our 2 hours of work, we got a 2 night trip with airfare to Las Vegas (because it would be too hard to drive the 4 hours to get there) and another 2 night trip to our choice of places, with accommodations only. So, all in all, it was a pretty good deal if you are fine with saying NO and think you can stand up to the pressure.
This morning, we were up nice and early (7am) and drove into LAX to pick up Nick's parents from their Tahiti trip. LAX is truly a crazy, dirty airport with too many people, so we were happy to be there early in the morning. We talked for a few minutes and then sent them home in their own vehicle back to Fresno. We were back in Riverside by 11:30, which was incredible timing ;). For some reason, I had a desire to go to McDonald's for lunch. It was very disappointing, as usual, but that will take care of my Micky D's desire for the next 6 months, at least. We did our errands after lunch and had the whole afternoon to relax and do little things around the house. It's kind of amazing what you can get done if you don't sleep until 8:30 or 9:00 and get out of the door before 10:00!
As for the biggest news of the week, it is on the housing front. At the beginning of last week, we were all set to make an offer on an older house on the other side of town. Our realtor then contacted us and let us know that two of the homes we previously offered on were back on the market, as the deals had fallen through. So, we were trying to decide what to do, but our realtor contacted us the next day to let us know that one of the agents submitted our old offer and it was accepted! The current owners must have their mortgage spread over 2 lenders, because the first lender owns about 80% of the house and the other 20%. So, we are waiting on the lender that owns 20%, which is a pretty good sign, but we won't breathe easy until we hear for sure! We're keeping our fingers crossed!
This coming week should return to normal, which will be nice. I only made it to the gym once last week, so now I can get back into my normal morning routine! We are hoping to hear an answer on the house as well, so we can get things moving! Also, for anyone that is interested, I just booked a long weekend for the end of July to visit Minnesota. I will be there July 25-28, flying in on the red eye that arrives at 6 am Friday morning and leaving about 7 PM on Monday night. I don't have much of an itinerary yet, but will expect most of the time being spent in Mapleton and maybe a day in the cities. I don't think I will be able to make it to the cabin on this trip, but maybe next time. Let me know if you want to plan something! Have a good week!
